National Youth Conference 2006 Wrap-Up - July 22-27 2006, Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO
69 youth & advisors from Northern Plains District along with 12 youth & advisors from Missouri-Arkansas District traveled together 10 plus hours via bus to beautiful Fort Collins Colorado. Youth from Ankeny/ Prairie City/ Panther Creek/ Libertyville/ English River/ S Waterloo/ Ivester/ Lewiston/ Ottumwa/ Open Circle were in attendance for this awesome week.
The Theme this year was "Come And See" based on John 1:35-39.
We stayed on the spacious Colorado State University campus where we got a daily dose of walking to meals, worship, pretty much, everything. The boys stayed in Edwards Hall where they had the typical college bathroom (one at each end of the hall) while the girls stayed in Summit Hall where they had pretty much a private bathroom (shared only with the person next door to them) Some of the boys thought this a bit unfair!
There were a total of 3,606 youth, advisors, and staff gathered for NYC `06.
8 youth came from the Dominican Republic; 2 from India; 19 from Puerto Rico.
Some of our youth noted these as their favorite speakers/performers: Ted & Lee/ Craig Kielburger/ Ken Medema/ the 3 youth speakers {Allen Bowers/ Janie Frye/ Chrissy Sollenberger}/ The Guys.
"Small things, great love, that’s how the mountains move." Quote from Ken Medema after hearing Craig Kielburger speak about his mission.
Here is a snapshot of the awesome things we did at NYC: Worship/ Small Groups/ Service Projects/ Hiking/ REGNUH/ Late Evening Activities, i.e. Open Mic; Ken Medema; The Guys; Bittersweet Band/ Workshops/ Fellowship with others.
$87,078.96 was raised for REGNUH/ $18,532.37 for NYC Scholarship Fund/ 1,357 Gift of the Heart School Kits were gathered (some districts sent theirs to New Windsor prior to NYC so this # will be more)/ 2,522 pounds of canned goods were collected for the local food pantry.
Our district photo was taken Tuesday with all of us in yellow and smiling big.
It was an awesome experience for our youth as the speakers spoke directly to them; empowering them that they can effect change in all areas of their lives. There were many opportunities to come & see Christ.
